Introduction: Why me? Why now? Why not?

Welcome! Sure you're in the right place?
Over the past few years I've become more interested in health, wellness, longevity (I hate this term), biohacking, or whatever folks want to call this 'emerging field' that's been around since the dawn of time. Long story short, I tried my shot as a non-athlete runner after the pandemic. Joke was definitely on me. I had knee pain, chest pain, trouble breathing, but by all intensive purposes by every doctor I saw, I was 'healthy'...
Fast forward a year post physical therapy for knee pain, and I ended up ripping off a piece of cartilage, required two surgeries, and yet still not able to run without knee pain (maybe one day!). So I thought it was beyond time to take matters into my own hands, figure out what's really going on, and hopefully help others along the way.
More on this never ending journey later....
About Me
Am I a doctor? Technically yes, PhD (not an MD). I was born and raised in Mississippi, where I received a Bachelor's in Polymer Science from the University of Southern Mississippi (SMTTT!). I went on to receive a Master's in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, along with a graduate certificate in Management Practice from their Technology Management Program. After the brief hiatus in sunny California, I moved to the top biotech hub in the US, Boston, to receive a PhD in Bioengineering from Harvard University. I fortunate enough to spin out a company from my graduate work in the oral biologics space back in 2019 called i2o Therapeutics to create next generation oral therapies using a novel ionic liquid platform. I have since moved to Sunny San Diego and work remotely, while also spearheading OUTbio San Diego, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit empowering LGBTQ+ life science professionals in the Greater San Diego region.
About the Blog
So what's the deal with this blog? I thought it might be fun to document my journey, highlight interesting scientific articles about fitness, longevity, and wellness (I'm a science nerd after all!). Will I get everything right? Of course not. But hopefully I can highlight interesting data-backed items that others may find interesting, or maybe just I will, why not. Who knows, I may also feature some of the data I have on myself as I try to figure out how I can live 'a better life' (aka not have knee pain when I run for starters).
Stay Connected!
Maybe one day I'll add it where folks can subscribe, but for now, check out the site periodically or maybe if I'm adventurous, post it on LinkedIn for others to see. Until next time!
